Frequently asked questions
Ombre Brows: A soft, shaded brow that gradually transitions from light at the front to darker at the tail - perfect for a makeup-filled look.
Combination Brows: A mix of hair strokes at the front and shading through the rest of the brow for a defined yet natural finish.
Hyper-Realism Brows: Ultra-fine, flowing hair strokes that mimic real brow hairs, giving an incredibly natural and realistic result.
Permanent makeup typically lasts between 12–24 months, depending on your skin type, lifestyle and aftercare. At E.M Refine Studio in Leeds, we recommend an annual refresh to keep your brows looking crisp and natural.
Our clients describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful. We use a gentle technique to keep you comfortable throughout your session.
Your first session usually takes around 2–3 hours, including consultation, brow mapping, colour matching, and the actual tattooing process. Touch-up appointments are quicker, around 1–1.5 hours.
Your brows will appear darker for the first few days, then gradually soften as they heal. Minor flaking or scabbing is normal. Full healing takes about 4–6 weeks, after which a top-up appointment perfects the result.
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinning medications (like ibuprofen) for 24 hours before your appointment. Don’t wax or tint your brows for at least a week beforehand. Come with clean skin and no makeup on the brow area.
Avoid touching, picking, or getting the area wet for 7–10 days. Skip saunas, swimming, excessive sweating, and makeup on the treated area until fully healed. Follow your aftercare instructions carefully for the best results.
PMU may not be suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, prone to keloid scarring, or taking certain medications such as Accutane. A full consultation and patch test are carried out before treatment to ensure safety.
Yes — a patch test is required at least 48 hours before your appointment to ensure you’re not allergic to any pigments or numbing agents used during the procedure.
During your consultation, your artist will discuss your preferences, skin type, and natural features to create a shape and technique that complements your face and desired look - whether soft and natural or bold and defined.
Hyper-Realism Brows are created using a machine to implant ultra-fine, curved hair strokes that mimic the natural flow and texture of real eyebrow hairs. The result is a soft, fluffy, and incredibly natural look that’s perfect for clients wanting subtle enhancement. Combination Brows, on the other hand, blend hair stroke techniques (usually at the front of the brow) with soft shading through the rest of the brow for added depth and definition. This style offers a slightly more filled-in, makeup-like finish while still maintaining a natural appearance.

Your trial is where we bring your vision to life. Together, we’ll explore different styles, tones, and finishes to create your perfect bridal look — one that complements your features, dress, and overall theme. It’s also the ideal time to discuss skincare prep and hair care leading up to your big day.
Most brides book their trial 8–12 weeks before the wedding, once final details such as dress and accessories are confirmed. This timing ensures your look perfectly complements your chosen style and any changes can be fine-tuned.
Bridal trials usually last 2 to 3 hours, allowing enough time to discuss ideas, try options, and refine your finished look until you feel completely confident.
Bring any inspiration images, your veil or hair accessories (if you have them), and wear a top similar in colour to your dress. Clean, moisturised skin and freshly washed, dry hair are ideal for the best results.
